upset语境含义
我曾经对这个词语做个调查，几乎百分之百的同学都认为upset是“沮丧”的意思。但事实上，这是大家对这个单词的误解。其实，upset是由两个单词构成的，原意指的是“将下面翻到上面”的意思。其语境含义是：只要描述任何“弄翻”的场景时，都可用upset这个单词。
比如，今天你父母说，你期末考试没考好，所以今年暑假不能去国外旅游了。这件事情让你心烦意乱，很不开心。这时候，你可以说，It really upsets me.
你吃饭的时候，一不小心把汤给打翻了。你也可以使用这个单词，可以说：I upset a tureen of soup. tureen是“汤碗”的意思。
周末的时候，你和家人准备去郊外度假。结果突然来了一个亲戚，打乱了你的周末安排。你可以说, His unexpected arrival upset my weekend plan.
昨天呢，你朋友过生日，结果喝得酩酊大醉，胃感到特别不舒服，好像里面在翻滚一样。你可以说，I had an upset stomach after drinking too much alcohol.
随着人类的发展，我们的自然环境遇到了前所未有的挑战。有些地区的生态系统失去了平衡。英语可以说，Human activities upset the balance of the environment in some places.
在体育比赛中，我们也可以使用upset这个词语，比如一个初出茅庐的选手一不小心掀翻了卫冕冠军。我们英语可以说，An inexperienced player upset the reigning champion.

Topic1: 情绪
比如，你和朋友一起做项目，但朋友什么都帮不了，这让你特别不爽。你可以说：It truly upsets me that he can do nothing to help. 或者 I’m very upset with him as he can do nothing to help.
你暗恋一个朋友很多年。最近她要出国读书了。一想到可能再也见不到面了，你就心烦意乱。你可以说：It upsets me to think that I might never see her again.
再如，同朋友一起外出旅游的时候，有个人老是把大家搞得不开心，完全是个“灾星”。英语可以说，He always manages to upset us when we go out traveling together—He’s a real liability.
Topic2: 健康
有些北方人难以适应南方的口味。他们来南方旅游，吃点辛辣的东西，肠胃就很不舒服。英语可以说：Spicy food upsets my stomach.
如果胃里翻腾得厉害，甚至出现了呕吐的感觉。英语可以写成：My stomach was upset and I felt like I might throw up.
Topic3: 计划
当计划打乱的时候，你也可以用upset这个词语。比如，你开车自驾旅游，本来打算横穿塔克拉玛干沙漠。但一个汽车的机械故障却打乱了整个计划。英语可以写成：A mechanical problem upset my plan of driving across the desert.

有人说，人类就像地球上的瘟疫，不但不给环境带来好处，反而给现有生态系统造成失衡。

瘟疫：plague
好处：benefit, beneficial
生态平衡：ecological balance/equilibrium
英语可以表达为：Mankind has become like a plague to the planet, it offers it no ecological benefit, and upsets the existing ecological equilibrium.
当我们描述，’自然平衡被严重破坏，人类生存环境正在为此付出代价’ 的时候，英语可以说：
The balance of nature has been drastically upset and the environment is already paying the price.

比如，在描述体育比赛的时候，一个重量级拳击手挑战卫冕冠军，结果卫冕冠军在第三轮出人意料地给掀翻了。

我们英语就可以说成：The heavyweight challenger upset the reigning champion in the third round.
